Abortion effects every life it touches, and for many women - it hurts long after the choice is made.
Many women have chosen abortion as behaviors a “solution” to an unplanned pregnancy. Long after the abortion is over, the psychological, emotional, and spiritual struggles can still linger. It is natural to try and forget negative experiences. Many have tried to ignore these feelings for a long time… and yet there may be feelings that intrude your thoughts at inopportune times. You are not alone! A time of relief and denial is normal. Feelings of sadness, depression, guilt, and unforgiveness of self or others are typical of any post-abortive woman. Symptoms may not appear for years after an abortion.
Women who suffer from Post-Abortion Syndrome (PAS) exhibit a variety of symptoms. If you have experienced any of the following symptoms, you may be experiencing PAS):
- Guilt or intense grief
- Anger or irritability
- Depression and thoughts of suicide
- Re-experiencing the abortion
- Alcohol or drug abuse
- Self destructive behaviors
